Around Mojacar,
Almeria

If you want to
explore beyond Mojacar, it's easy to rent a car and Almeria offers a
beautiful and rugged coastline with isolated quiet beaches and villages,
dramatic desert scenery and mountains; thaks to the excellent climate
you can enjoy walking, golf and other sports all year round.

Walkers can explore
the Sierra de los Filabres and Sierra Nevada mountains extending from
Mojacar to Granada, and more locally enjoy panoramic views to the coastal
plain from the Sierra Cabrera hills rising behind the old town, also
offering pony trekking and the Cortijo Grande golf course; two further
places to play in the area are at Desert Springs and Marina de la Torre.
Inland, small towns
with weekly markets and ancient castles and caves, and the Tabernas
desert familiar from spaghetti westerns provide unforgettable scenery,
and with fiestas at Christmas, New Year, early summer and in autumn
and the year-round good weather, there are opportunities to enjoy Mojacar
and Almeria at any time.
Mojacar's main
fiestas are at Easter, Moros y Christianos in early June, San Juan on
June 24th and Festividad de la Virgen del Rosario in October, including
the Corrida de Cintas:

Cabo de Gata parque
naturale offers quiet beaches and small resorts like San Jose and Agua
Amarga, miles of unspoilt rocky coastline and is home to flamingoes,
herons, egrets and many other birds.
Andalucia's rich
heritage includes both renaissance castles like Velez Blanco, the Moorish
Alcazabas in Almeria and Granada, and C11-15th Mudejar buildings
throughout the province. The unique hill villages of the Alpujarras
and Granada's Alhambra palace can be reached in about two hours.
